Butterflies

As seen in “Change” Season 1, Episode 3

Supplies

  • Construction paper

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Tape

  • Markers

  • Recycled art materials (tissue paper, book covers, etc…)

Steps

  1. Pick a color of construction paper and fold it in half

  2. Draw a “3” shape on one side connecting to the middle and cut it out while the paper stays folded (this will allow the “3” to unfold into a butterfly shape)

  3. Open up your butterfly and decorate using markers and recycled materials (ex: tape two pipe cleaners, cotton swabs, straws, etc. to the back to make antennas)

  4. Optional: Tape a long piece of string to the middle section of your butterfly to make it fly!

Questions to Ask Your Child

  • Does a butterfly start out its life as a butterfly?

  • How does a butterfly change?

  • Have you had anything change in your life?

  • How does change make you feel?

  • Do you think butterflies like the changes they go through?
