We recognize that young children demonstrate improved learning and problem-solving abilities when taught by individuals who reflect themselves. Look, Listen & Learn aims to feature the brilliance of Black, Indigenous, and children of color for the world to see, by fostering their early development through captivating educational media that reflects themselves.
Founded by Val Thomas-Matson, our educational media inspires young viewers to explore the world around them and tackles essential, thought-provoking topics. Rooted in research on brain development, we feature kids, community leaders, and experts as guest stars.
Val's journey began in Seattle, where she found comfort in local TV shows during her hectic childhood. Her passion for media led her to study theater and broadcast communications, with a vision to bring more diversity to the industry. After years of perseverance, the Look, Listen + Learn Television series was launched in 2018. With nearly 40 episodes produced, the show has won multiple Telly Awards and received two local Emmy nominations. Val remains dedicated to supporting and uplifting children across all media platforms, meeting kids where they are in a world that often overlooks them.
